On Islamic Fundamentalism

The rising and development of Islamic Fundamentalism has its complex political, economical, historical and religious reasons. On their way to modernizations, the Middle East countries have suffered a lot from their embarrassments and setbacks which have already made and will still make the Islamic Renaissance Movement even more broadened and more widely spread. The Islamic traditional culture and the religious belief promoted by Islamic Fundamentalists have helped the Islamic Fundamentalism to get wide support in Islamic world. Meanwhile, The rising and development of modern Islamic Fundamentalism is not only the result of violent conflict between the Islamic Civilization and West Civilization, but also the product of stagnation of the Middle East peace process. It is power politics and hegemonism that leads to radical nationalist trend against foreign oppression.Islamic Fundamentalism is not wholly equal to terrorism. But Islamic Fundamentalist Extremism is one of the breeding grounds of terrorism. The rising and extremity of Fundamentalism has its complex historical background and practical reasons, which means that the resolution of the problems will be long-term, complicated and tortuous. Thus, the problem of terrorism can not be effectively solved in a short time. Its effects on international security and international relationship will last long.As the globalization develops fast, Islamic Fundamentalism, an important force, influences itself greatly on the politics, economy and ideology in Muslin world. How to know the origin of Islamic Fundamentalism comprehensively, how to distinguish the differences between the Islamic Fundamentalist organizations objectively and how to understand the relationship between the Islamic Fundamentalism and terrorism correctly, and influences on world situation and international relationship, remains a theoretical question for study and discussion. It is a practical question to which the governments in many countries pay much attention. A study on Islamic Fundamentalism is significative of making of our country's foreign policies, of our participation in international anti-terrorism, of resolution of "East Turkistan" issue. A study on Islamic Fundamentalism is also valuable in refuting the argument of "Islamic Thread". Some people at home and abroad takes an unfair understanding of Islamic Fundamentalism. The viewpoints, such as "Islamic Thread" and "Clash of Civilizations", are widely spread. Islamic Fundamentalism, therefore, is considered as a serious challenge to the concept of establishment of a new international order and a serious threat to the Security of the West.In line with a practical and realistic approach, and directed by Marxist historical theory and methodology, this paper is to make full use of the knowledge of history, politics and sociology to study Islamic Fundamentalism in the background of globalization.In view of the present study at home and abroad, this paper, by assimilating the accumulated research from home and abroad, tries to analyses Islamic Fundamentalism all-sidedly. To start with, the paper discusses the origin of Islamic Fundamentalism and thus defines the Islamic Fundamentalism intensively and extensively. Then some concepts related to Islamic Fundamentalism, such as Islamic Renaissance Movement, Pan-Islamism, Islamic Modernism, Religious Extremism and International Terrorism are discussed and explained in this paper. Such historic heroes and events and valuable thoughts as the Theory of Hanbaliyah, Ibn Taymiyah and his thoughts, Wahhabi and Wahhabi Campaign, Hassan Banna and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Iranian Islamic Revolution, Afghanistan's Taliban and Al Qaeda—"the Base" led by Osama bin Laden is retold to give a brief introduction to Islamic Fundamentalism. The paper also analyses the reasons for the rising and development of modern Islamic Fundamentalism politically, economically, historically, culturally, religiously and theoretically. The paper also summarizes 4 features of Modern Islamic Fundamentalism and shows the 4 main influences of Islamic Fundamentalism on international politics, international relationship, international security, world peace and Middle East peace process, and, in the end, it shows us the relationship between Islamic Fundamentalism and Terrorism and prevention measures we should take in counter-terrorism.
