The Cultivation Of Citizen Consciousness In The Harmonious Society

The construction of a harmonious society of socialism is a great and rational choice made by the Communist Party of China under new historical situation. This choice has become a general heartfelt wish of all the Chinese people, and the subject of China's modernization construction. During the construction of this great project, the most fundamental and important factor is it's subject - Citizen. 'Citizen' refers to the natural persons who own a country's nationality and, according to this country's constitution and legislation, enjoy certain rights and bear certain responsibilities. This means, as the subject, citizens should realize their rights and responsibilities, take part actively in the public affairs and activities in the society, and make suggestions to China's modernization construction. However, as our country has been effected by many feudalism remains for a long period, there are comparatively less public consciousness and public spirits. Citizens neither realize their active roles nor have strong consciousness of participation. Therefore, we must consider the cultivation of citizen consciousness as a key issue of building a harmonious society of socialism, which means we should create active, healthy and rational citizens to build a harmonious society with a completely democratic and legal system, with trust and love, with stability and good order, with a harmonious relationship between human and nature.This paper includes 3 parts. The first is the importance of cultivation of citizen consciousness in building a harmonious society. The second is the point of application of cultivation of citizen consciousness in building a harmonious society. The third is the methods of cultivation of citizen consciousness in building a harmonious society.Part 1 illustrates the connotation citizen consciousness and a harmonious society, and indicates the inner connection between them. Citizen consciousness not only includes consciousness of rights and obligations, but also includes that of being the subject, democracy and equality, and social morality. A harmonious society is a society with a democratic and legal system, with trust and love, with stability and good order, with a harmonious relationship between human and nature. Citizen consciousness and a harmonious society develop in a complementary way. Citizen consciousness is very important to the construction of a harmonious society.Part 2 explores the current situation of China's citizen Consciousness and analyzes its advantage and disadvantage. Its advantage lies in the strong national consciousness, collectivism consciousness and responsibility consciousness. Its disadvantage lies in weak self consciousness, legal consciousness and social morality consciousness, which have good or bad effects on construction of a harmonious society. On this basis, to foster civic awareness should adhere to the core values of the socialist-oriented, developing fine cultural traditions, and absorb advanced foreign cultural elements as the focal points.Part 3 illustrates the social conditions of cultivation of citizen consciousness. The socialist market economy is the economic basement. The socialist democratic and legal construction is the politic guarantee. The socialist cultural value is the humanistic environment. The socialist citizen society is the social soil.
