Geopolitical Perspectives Of Australia-China Relations

America diplomatic policy on China was switched in the 1970s, with which Australia and China began and accelerated their diplomatic relations. The termination of the Cold War changed the geopolitical structure of Asian and Pacific regions, and America changed its diplomatic strategy on China correspondingly. Thus Australia-China geopolitical relations changed and stepped into a relatively long altering era.Since the termination of the Cold War, Australia and China constantly adjusts bilateral relations based on their national interests. Australia accelerates its pace on blending into Asia especially into East Asia, expands bilateral trade as well as political relations. On the other hand, with the increase of economic strength and the promotion of national strength, China's influence on Asia and the whole world gets larger and larger. The importance of Australia-China geopolitical relations begins to protrude and gets more and more important mutually on national strategy. With the development and promotion of Australia-China geopolitical relations, obstacles appear continuously.Based on geopolitical perspectives, this thesis eyes on analysis of Australia-China geopolitical relations from the termination of Cold War especially in Howard's time in power; with the emphasis of East Asian and Pacific regions, combining the process of Australia-America Alliance and America-China relations, analyses the developing process and trend of Australia-China relations. The thesis contains four parts. The first part is a description of geopolitics and standpoints of geopolitical study, namely geography, history and interests. The second part aims to summarize characteristic and trend of Australia-China geopolitical relations. The third part is a analysis of the pivots of Australia-China geopolitical relations and the characteristic of Australia-China geopolitical relations. The last part analyses the obstacles of Australia-China geopolitical relations and raise proposals on geopolitical relations for China.
