Research For Urban Militia Campaign Of Shanghai (Year 1958-1966)

This article follows closely with the circumstances of Urban Militia Campaign of Shanghai, of which the period of 1958 to 1966 is the study focus.With the agitation of nation-wide spreaded development of militia division in year 1958, militia campaign extended to various areas including manufacturing and mining factories, organs and entities.This article is based on the archives and historical files studied up in Shanghai Municipal Archives and Luwan District Archives, which reflect the circumstances of militia campaign in various industries and areas. Combined this base with the press materials and other materials including personal memoirs, this article is to discuss the development background, organization structure and circumstances of urban militia campaign of Shanghai, to analyze the detailed situation of various areas of militia campaign including personnel component, leadership organization, political education and martial discipline, and to have reviews and commentaries on the features and realistic implications of the campaign.Urban militia campaign of Shanghai of this period was integrated with various kinds of social and political campaign, due to which, personnel family origins and political performances were extremely emphasized in the militia organization; meanwhile, the realistic implications of militia campaign were not simply limited to martial mobilization, but multiple social implications integrated with production and labor, political and cultural activities. On the other side, there existed serious exaggeration and disequilibrium of development in militia campaign under the vigorous fagade.
