Safety and security in tourist industry has gained vital importance today,as traveling around gets popular increasingly,together with more adventure and sports tours and the like mushrooming and tourists taking delight in long-distance and long-time travels.As to a destination,that how to build up an image distinctive and in particular distinguish itself as a safe destination plays a critical role in promoting tourist industry.A literature research finds that more emphases were put on relation between crime and tourism and safety and security issues therein,on analyzing and assessing tourist destination image with its specialized role discussion thereof neglected,and on tourists or tour operators as to safety and security in tourist industry,overlooking tour resources and industrial management and regulations.Further exploring what constitutes and how to build up an image as a safe destination calls on an identification of tourism safety and security,with the intrinsic and social characteristics of tourism taken into consideration.A leisure and recreation activity of higher level,traveling is subjected to social fabric and conflicts.An in-depth study regarding the safety and security in a tourist destination is done with a criminal perspective in a wider social context.Discussion on an image as a safe destination is undertaken on the analysis aforementioned of safety and security in tourism,against the context of the destination.Elaboration on an image as a safe destination is carried out by modeling with a Delphi method.An empirical study is also completed with the model,deriving data from several cities in Shandong Province,China.Chapters are also devoted to discussion on how to marketing an image as a safe destination and how to mitigate the impact from negative incidents or events to the image,with focus on destinations perceived not safe.In the end,a case study of South Africa in building up and marketing an image as a safe destination is initiated.
