During the year of 2008, China has witnessed an extraordinary highs and lows in its national image, which indicates that as an emerging power, China's rise is surely can not be held back by any means. At the same time, the uncertainty brought by the rise of China to the international structure and order, may be seen as a threat to the current hegemony, as well as some other countries. Discord voice may accompany China during the whole process of its emergence. Therefore, how to build a favorable national image of China during its rise has become one of the greatest challenges. How China sees itself and how the world sees China is a crucial matter for China to continue deepening its domestic reform, and to participate the international institution smoothly. A proper national image of China is helpful for other countries to better understand the China's purpose and behavior of development, and it also helps China to be judged accordingly and fairly, which can provide China a favorable environment for its further development. As a global media event, Olympics Games 2008 is an excellent chance to shape china's national image. Is it possible for the western world to understand and accept the Chinese concept of"harmony"? Can this concept resolve the frictions and conflicts between China and foreign countries, and better the outside environment for the development of China? Is"harmony"able to represent the essence of Chinese traditional culture, and to be acknowledged by Chinese people? These are the questions concerned in this thesis.According to all backgrounds above, this thesis studies the feasibility of national image of"Harmonious China".
