On The Disabled Undertaking Enterprise In Urban Area

In recent years, there have been more and more reports in newspaper and television about the enterprise of the disabled, many of which were successful. This shows that the phenomenon of the disabled undertaking enterprises has attracted a wide attention of the society.There are many studies on the disabled which cover a wide area of this field, however, the research on the enterprise of the disabled has not gone far enough. Based on harkening to the voice of the disabled themselves and from a perspective of the "insider", this research will try to demonstrate the states of their undertaking the enterprise and explore the social environment and internal conditions of these disabled entrepreneurs.From the perspective of Anthony Giddens' "theory of structuration", this paper will argue the influencing factors of the disabled undertaking an enterprise include both the structural factor and the individual factor, which are independent to each other and work interactively in the process of social actions. The social factors play a key role in the disabled undertaking enterprise. And in this case, this paper will mainly examine how the social factors act, that is, whether government policies play effective roles in supporting enterprises of the disabled people, and the roles of other social factors. The subjective factors of the disabled entrepreneurs are fatal factors of their success, through which the social environment could bring various results. This paper will investigate the helpful subjective factors for the success of the disabled entrepreneur that is, what kinds of internal conditions the successful disabled entrepreneurs should have, how the disabled with certain qualities interpret the structural factors and how the interpretation influences their undertaking the enterprises.With the method of the long interview, this paper will research how the structural factors and the subjective factors work in the action of the disabled undertaking their enterprise.Through the interviews with nine disabled entrepreneurs with different types, the paper draws the following conclusions: first, the disabled people show both initiative and inertia in the motivation of their business. Second, one reason is that the subjectivity, the violation and the abilities of them are significant in their business success. Another reason is the restrictive effects of the social factors. Finally, through the analyses of the social and individual factors of the disabled undertaking their enterprises, the author argues that conclude that it is necessary to set up the helpful social supporting mechanism. First of all, the government should give policy support to help the disabled and provide what they really need in their business. Next, as to the social conception, not only the common people but also the disabled themselves should change the traditional conception to the disabled. What the disabled people need are not only sympathy, but also respect and some special help in a sense of equality.
