On The Social Identity Of "Phoenix Man"

Today, we pay more attention to the urban immigration. Most of the scholars concentrate on the labor immigrants' research, however, the knowledge immigrants especially the "Phoenix Man" received less attention. By this quantitative research, the author found that the group identification, the culture identification, the region identification, the career identification and the socio-economic status identification of this knowledge immigrant are interrelated with each other. Among them, the culture identification with the region identification, the SES identification with the region identification and the career identification both are high correlated; the group identification with the other four identifications, the culture identification with the career identification and the SES identification, the region identification with the career identification all are moderately correlated. While the number of years working in Shanghai, the place of birth, the age, the marital status, the educational attainment and the income are the important factors of their social identity. In the text, the author interprets and analyzes all of these interrelations.In addition, by the qualitative study, I also discussed the adhesive Identities of this group:the integration of system identity, cultural identity and biological identity. From the "Phoenix man", we can also observe that diverse social identity, which based on the diverse group memberships, is developing its multi-modality. "Phoenix man" shows the "system exclusion" is not the ultimate obstacle to immigrations, but the main reason is a series of general urban bias policies. Furthermore, this research prepare for my study of PhD on industrial relations.
