Competition And Cooperation Between China And The USA In North Korean Nuclear Issue

After the Cold War, the world situation generally tends to alleviation and peace and development have become the world subject. However, local conflicts never stop.Korean peninsula, well known as the living fossil of the Cold War, becomes a substential powder barrel in Northeast Asia due to the outbreak of the North Korean nuclear crisis.China and the USA are the two great powers which posses the most important influences on the issues in Korean Peninsula. Therefore, the interactions between the two powers on the North Korean nuclear issue are vital to the solving of the problem.So it's necessary to study the competition and cooperation between the two powers on the North Korean nuclear issue.This paper is divided into three parts, prolegomena, main text(including preface and four chapters) and concluding remarks.The prolegomena part mainly introduces the aim and significance of the study, the present situation of the study, the research methods,the innovation points,the difficulties and keystones.The preface mainly illustrates that the center of the North Korean nuclear issue is the conflicts and convergences of national interests.Then theories about national interests are illustrated and the concepts, contents,status and functions in international relations of national interests are analyzed. Chapter one mainly illustrates the origin and development of the North Korean nuclear issues and emphatically introduces the two North Korean nuclear crisises.Chapter two emphatically analyzes interests which China and the USA respectively concern as well as the conflict interests and the convergence interests of the two powers in this issue.Then it comes to the conclusion that the two powers share the same interests in turning the Korean Peninsula into non-nuclear area and in preventing nuclear proliferation.However, the two powers has conflicts in the way to achieve the mutual interests.Both of the powers realize the importance of mutual cooperation to solve the issue.However, the two powers compete in the contention for leading status in solving the issue.However, generally speaking,the North Korean nuclear issues provide a platform for cooperation to the two powers.Chapter three respectively and concretely illustrates the competence actions and cooperation actions between the two powers based on the conflict interests and convergence interests,emphasizing on cooperation between the two powers in the North Korean nuclear crisises. Chapter four predicts the competence and cooperation between the two powers in the future based on the analysis for the former parts.Concluding remarks emphasize on the prospects of China's diplomacy in the new era.
