This paper is for the Master’s degree program in International Relations in the School of Marxism at Central South University in Changsha, China. Based on thorough research of current and past events between the U.S., China and the DPRK, this thesis provides a perspective to create better relations. In order for relations to progress any further between China, the U.S. and the DPRK, several ideas need to be considered. The first is that the Six-Party Talks need to become active again; secondly, removal of military forces needs to be considered; the third idea is about the DPRK showing its commitment towards denuclearization; the last relates to civil diplomacy where methods outside of the political aspect need to be focused on in order to understand the mindset of how the DPRK’s regime operates.Currently, the U.S. and China are cooperating together to find a solution on how to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. Since the Cold War, many efforts in this issue have been thought of however the issue has remained unresolved to this day. This is due to the complexity of the DPRK’s policies and how they have changed over time through various situations. This situation comes from the DPRK wanting to increase their development of their nuclear weapons, which is disturbing the balance in Asia that China and the U.S. are trying to protect. This problem affects the international community as well as the DPRK itself. This paper in comparison to other scholars who have researched this topic offers insight on how to deal with the nuclear weapons issue in the Korean Peninsula. The meaning of this research is to give a better understanding of the Korean Peninsula’s nuclear weapons issue through explanations on how the U.S. and China need to cooperate together in order to resolve this situation in a peaceful manner.Through the correlations and peaceful efforts of China and the U.S., a possible peaceful solution can be found through using diplomatic negotiations instead of military force. This strategy will strengthen the bonds between the affected countries as well as bring peace to the Korean Peninsula. Diplomatic negotiations can lead to a consensus and possibly to the development of the DPRK’s economy, security and society by further distributing aid to its citizens in modern medicine and care, and open their eyes to a whole new world outside of the DPRK.
