| Purpose: To get the whole picture of the current situation of city level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province,including the organization structuring,personnel allocation,scientific equipment and the existing difficulties,so as to provide an orientation of development of city level sports science research institutes in the future. Methods: The method of questionnaire survey,documentary,mathematical statistics and expert interview are employed in this paper. Ten city level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province are investigated. Results:①Ten city level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province were set up around 1990 and 2000.Seven of them are public good institution with independent legal entity qualification,the others are subsidiary department of training unit.②They have two main tasks: one is provide scientific research for competitive sports,the other is provide scientific research for civil exercise.③The number of the scientific research personnel of city level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province is low,and more than half of them are centralized in Suzhou,Wuxi and Changzhou. The proportion of college degree holder and master degree holder of the professional scientific research personnel is high . Being between 30 and 39 years of age of them is the most .50 years of age and above is the least.Sports human science and other P.E major graduates are the most. The proportion of the professional scientific research personnel working below 9 years is 73.5%.The ratio of the professional scientific research personnel with high title,intermediate title and primary title is 1:2.3:3.8.The treatment of scientific research personnel is moderate to inferior.④City level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province are lack of large advanced scientific equipment,and existing advanced equipment are highly centralized in Suzhou,Wuxi and Changzhou. The special fund for scientific research is close to $7 million and it is also centralized in Suzhou,Wuxi and Changzhou. The special fund of service for scientific research is the most.⑤The scientific achievements of city level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province are now at low level and inferior in number. Many subjects are at provincial and municipal level and there are almost no higher level of achievements. Only average 0.26 paper is published every year by each professional scientific research personnel. The frequency is very low.⑥The local P.E authoritative agency have valued sports scientific research and also the teams and citizens are satisfied with the work of level sports science research institutes of Jiangsu province.⑦The difficulties they are now faced with are short of hands,lack of fund and experience and affected by the mechanism.⑧Sports science of prefectural-level cities institute in present's developing process,must strengthen the organization construction; Pays great attention athletics sports scientific research and comprehensive fitness scientific research coordinated development; Strengthens the scientific researchers troop construction; Strengthens to the sports research spending safeguard dynamics; Enhances the institute earnestly comprehensive scientific research ability; Carries on the local sports science and technology work plan.Conclusion:①Sports science of prefectural-level cities institute's construction in jiangsu has certain precursor and demonstrativeness in the nation.②Institutes of sports science of prefectural-level cities in Jiangsu has made the important contribution for the local sport development. The job content of institutes of sports science in prefectural-level cities,which focus on the science of competitive sports and popular fitness ,is coverage. Local competent department of sports and target of service are satisfied with Institutes of sports science there generally .③The sports administrative departments of prefectural-level cities in Jiangsu attach important to sports science and technology at large.④Institutes of sports science of prefectural-level cities are lack of research specialist staff,especially the full-time ones. They also short of research specialist staff with senior professional title,particularly the talents who deal with natural science. Furthermore,The age abruption between staff is serious in a small part of institutes of sports science ,the salary is low.⑤The amount of scientific achievements,which from Institutes of sports science of prefectural-level cities in Jiangsu province,is relatively low,sobre todo the high-quality ones. Institutes of sports science of prefectural-level cities in Jiangsu are lack of high-end apparatus,especially ones in northern and middle part of Jiangsu. They need apparatus to feed the high-level research.
