With the development of the society, the education in China has got a further development. It is ruled by law that everyone has the right to be educated and everyone requires education. It is a common sense that we have equal access to education. Thus, people pay more attention to the individual being educated and the enhancement of education quality. As a result, the research on the underachievers, students who have difficulty in learning, is of great concern among educational and psychological circles. As we all know, compulsory education contributes a lot to improve the populace's cultivation and create more talents. And our primary education is undoubtedly the basis of compulsory education. During this crucial period, pupils'habits in learning, living and morality have gradually formed. We, teachers must have the concept that education should cater to all the students and everyone can have an all-round development. But we can not deny the existence of the underachiever in primary schools, especially those in middle and senior grades. The appearance of these underachievers is due to various kinds of reasons. Scholars from home and aboard have made consistent researches on them. Although being a late bird, Chinese scholars have got some achievements with the intensification of education reform and the increasing of the sense of scientific research. However, these researches are rarely related to primary schools, let alone rural primary schools. Thus, this paper chooses the underachievers in rural primary schools in southern Jiangsu as the object of study. With the help of questionnaire survey and interview, this paper has done some researches on the characteristics of the underachievers and the appearance of these students. According to these researches, the paper elaborates the effective methods to change these students for the better. The students'quality, the inadequacy of home education and the comprehensive function of some factors like teachers, school and society are the main reasons for the appearance of the underachievers. Because of low scores, the underachievers always feel inferior and are weary of studying, which in turn, make them get even lower scores. This is just like a vicious circle. Besides that, the inadequacy of home education is a big problem. Gradually, Students have bad attitudes to learning and form incorrect study habits as a result of the unilateral concepts of home education, the unmerited methods of home education and unharmonious family aura. At last, they can not grow up healthy and sound. In addition, social bad common practice and teachers'unreasonable teaching methods also do harm to the growing-up of the students. In light of these reasons, this paper puts forward some effective methods. First, the students should overcome inferiority complex and become interested in learning. The teachers and the supervisors of the school must change their ideas, set up various situations and adopt changeable teaching methods to increase the students'confidence and their interest in learning, cultivate their ability of self-control. Besides that, they can found a stage for the students, giving them more chances to success. Meanwhile, teachers and parents should cooperate with each other to create a good learning environment. Parents should get rid of these out-going concepts, enhance their qualities and cooperate with teachers to help change these underachievers for the better. At the end of this paper, an idea is presented: A child can not become an underachiever in one day. Thus, it does not only take one day to change them for the better. We need more time and vigor. This task relies on the concern, understanding, support and help from all walks of life.
