Since July,2009, Ministry of Jiangsu education has executed Five Strict Stipulations, of which the stipulation of regulating school hours promises to allow students more freedom by lessening school hours and banning any extra lessons. In that case , students are to develop the habit of self-study instead of receiving knowledge passively. This essay focuses on theoretical and practical sutdy of the teaching of self-study in senior chemisty class.In terms of theory, modern teaching methodology combined with psychological theory makes it possible to make students eager to learn, enjoy learning, able to learn well , assess and good at learning by creating proper situations, properly guiding, supplying a enjoyable study environment, mutually evaluating between students and teachers and finally ajusting teaching methods accordingly. Therefore, a teaching mode of self-study will gruadually come into being , where students'self-learning capacity will be largely enhanced for the sake of their good habits of reading, experiments, communication, conclusion and recollection.In terms of practice, by studying different types of lessons and making small changes to their lessons based on the teaching mode of self-study , teachers are likely to make it come true that students can gladly accept, discover and recollect what is taught to the largest extent.By comparing students'academic scores before and after this experiment, and surveying their studying conditons, we can draw a conclusion that it's necessary that teachers should develop students'ability of self-study in senior chemisty teaching. On one hand, not only can it greatly increase their learning interest and motives ,but also their learning objective ,planning and initiative can be largely improved, which strengtherns their implementation, recollection and monitoring capacities. On the other hand, self-study raises students'autonomic consciousness, fully activates their learning motives and tranforms studying methods, thus improving their academic performance in chemisty. Above all, it lays a strong foundation for students'life-long learning and development.
