With the coming era of the knowledge economy, the international competition is increasing fiercely. The competition is in economic. But the real competition is in technology. The key is elite, focused on excellence. The national demand for elite has increased dramatically. Talent is from education. If we pay much attention to the elite education, we pay the same attention to the future of our country. The formation of elite is the interaction of genetic and environmental results. The right environment and education make it possible to turn the gifted children into elite. As a basis for training talent in the secondary period, China has basically achieved mass education, but this is not complete. Education must be combined with the special education. Elite education is part of special education. Differences between students are an objective reality, and we should realize and respect the difference. Nowadays in the social environment of education equity, we should promote elite education in general secondary schools. We should promote appropriate education according to the real individual differences in students, so that individualized, innovative talents need to fully develop, especially the innovative spirit and creative ability. It also represents the true education democracy. The traditional"one size fits all"type of education is not conducive to the development of gifted students. Actually that education is undemocratic. The gifted students do not get the education for them. It is a waste of talent, for the country it is also a great loss. Competition exists objectively in every field of education. To promote legitimate educational competition is to worship excellence and to promote talent emerging. My essay is based on theory with practice. I made a survey about students in three general secondary schools and found gifted students are significantly better than the average students in learning characteristics, achievement motivation, creativity, leadership characteristics features. In the process of education, we should recognize and respect such differences, so that each student will fully develop. The gifted students should be characterized for their education and get the most development, too. On this basis, I propose elite education in general secondary schools in necessity and means, from the curriculum, teacher quality, family background and other aspects.
