The thesis studies the motivation of the secondary school class tutors. The research is based on the need of the students'healthy development and the tutors' team building. It is also based on my own work experience and reflection as a head teacher over the past decade. The main methods in the research are documents analyzing, questionnaire, interviews and case study. Through the questionnaires from 204 class tutors in 7 secondary schools of different levels in Fuzhou City and the interview with some vice principals, directors and class tutors, we learn about the present situation of class tutors'working motivation, classify the consequences and analyze the attributions. On the basis of the above research, we analyze theoretically the ways to strengthen class tutors'working motivation, some specific strategies and recommendations have been put forward.The research finds that the main reasons for the low working motivation of class tutors are as the following. First, the majority of them lacks the awareness of independent innovation and class management ideas. Second, the majority of them is working as "a person in combat," no team efforts have been made. Thirdly, scientific evaluation, encouragement and proper organizational structures are lacked.In order to solve the above problems, the research comes up with the following ideas. First, the class tutors should understand the new value of "develop the teachers while doing things in class management", which evolves from the older value of" develop the students while doing things in class management ". Second, the class tutors should combine individual autonomy and team work. Thirdly, the class tutors should form a system of assurance and research and innovation management.Based on the above ideas, I propose practical strategies:First, improve the incentive mechanism; Second, make team efforts; Thirdly, adjust the organizational structure.We hope that the study can provide the basis for decisions made by administrative departments of education, provide information to heighten the working motivation of class tutors of secondary schools, and contribute to the reform and development of basic education.
