Adult education is an important component of life-long education system, which has the "locomotive" status. In the 60 years after liberation, especially the period of reform over thirty years, Adult Education has made remarkable achievements, and formed a pattern of free development, but on the other hand, there are some constraints. In the process of development, Adult education experienced the difficult position of being marginalized and diverted. In face of the current social and economic development, with the background of three theoretical systems concerning lifelong education, lifelong learning and learning society, there are increasing demands for education by social members and the promotion in the level and quality of education. An open adult education mode is urgently needed.The paper classifies and describes the existing school system of adult education, and then the overall patterns of adult education are analyzed. In brief, a variety of educational models exist, but the proportion is unreasonable; diversification of running bodies; cooperative education needs to be strengthened; various learning forms, educational modes can not be compatible with one other; teaching methods, constantly updated, but can not meet the level of development of information technology; relatively out-of-date teaching content is not in harmony with the economic and social development; schooling system tends to open, but needs to be further perfected. The overall pattern of the existing school system restricts the healthy development of adult education. It also can not meet the requirements and expectations of adult education. Drawing on the experience of school system in the United States, Britain, Japan and China's Hong Kong, the paper explores the Adult Education Model based on China's current situation, and puts forward establishing an open education model of adult education at this stage, aiming to achieve openness in principal body of schooling, learning style, teaching methods and means. The establishment of an open school system is needed to build a lifelong education system; to build a harmonious society; to promote economic development; to realize the advancement of technology and information technology; to improve human resource development and to speed up the construction of new countryside as well as the process of urbanization. Finally, this paper describes specific implementation measures to establish an open education model of adult education including: the establishment of a sound legal system for adult education; active participation in community education under the auspices of the government; establishment of schooling pattern of adult education for life-long learning; diversification of adult education and learning in different forms and levels; realization of integration of running mode between adult education and non-academic education, achieving mutual recognition of credits; and utilization of modern means of teaching.
