The twenty-first century is the century of knowledge economy. At the beginning of the new century, the construction of learning society as the cultural and educational form of knowledge society, has become the educational subject and social reformational movement which the whole world pay much attention to. As the professional cultural and educational instruction, school is an important part of learning society. This thesis starts from the theory of learning society, and analyzes the challenge to the traditional schooling from the coming of knowledge society, as to give some advice for school reform.The thesis is divided into three parts:The first part deals with the outlook of learning society. First of all, this part draws the background of learning society and analyzes the cause of learning society's coming. And then, the history of learning society theory is outlined. At last, the four characteristics of learning society are delineated, that is 'Study is the key life style', 'Educating is the self-conscious action of the whole society', 'Open information flat is the base of learning society', and 'Learning organise is the basic form'.The second part analyzes the challenge to the traditional schooling from knowledge society. First, other educational powers are growing stronger and stronger; on the other hand, knowledge society demands the exploitation of the close schooling resource. Then the traditional schooling educates students as 'object', so the students can't develop themselves by themselves and can't develop themselves all-round. Thirdly, equality and cooperation is the base of knowledge society. But grade and competition is the main base of the traditional schooling, so both teachers and students lack the equality and cooperation consciousness.The third part puts forward the main points about schooling reformfrom the view of learning society. First, construct an open schooling, that is to say, make school an open community cultural and educational center. Secondly, students must be the center of schooling. Thirdly, learning ability is the most important in schooling. At last, construct a new relation in campus.
