Content: The research in the field of physical self-esteem develops fast. The influence on physical self-esteem of aerobics course has once compared with other courses, but the programs the compared items belong to are too much scattered, and the items have various characteristics. Therefore, the conclusion is controversial. The PE curriculum of artistic representation regard artistic sports items as the main content. During the process of learning artistic PE courses, the students'perception, discriminability, ability of appreciation to beauty are unconsciously cultivated and improved by means of appreciating and showing the beauty of figure, posture and temperament; with the changes of external body physique and personal internal cognition, artistic accomplishment is improved, the students'physical and mental health are developed, the artistic expression is cultivated, and good psychological endurance with stable self-esteem is finally well-developed. This paper regards the PE curriculum of artistic representation as the object of study, and all students who chose aerobics, hip-hop and sports dance as their optional courses are taken as the experimental subjects who are from the full-time undergraduates of Grade 2008 of Hebei University of Engineering. It adopts the Physical Self-esteem Scale revised by Xu Xia and discusses how different PE courses, especially the courses of artistic representation such as aerobics, hip-hop etc, influence the improvement of physical self-esteem. After 32 teaching-hours'study in 16 weeks, the changes of the physical self-esteem, body shape, motor skills of the participates, who were from different sports items and of different sexes, was statistically analyzed. It shows that the sports items of artistic representation can improve the score of physical self-esteem dimensions in various degrees. The different external forms of artistic representation reduced the attraction of male students, which caused the scores of sports ability and physical quality of male participants were lower than female participants. The female body attractiveness and physical quality have been obviously improved than male participants after practice. All sports items have positive influence on each participant's physical self-esteem dimension. To the improvement of physical self-worth, aerobics is much better than sports dance and hip-hop. To the improvement of sports ability, sports dance is better than aerobics and hip-hop. The score improvement of health status of sports dance is lower than aerobics and hip-hop. For the choice of participants in sports items of artistic representation, the male participants are mainly of average height or a little shorter, but shapely or slim for female participants. For different sexes, practice makes the height, BMI,chest circumference grow, and waist circumference and hip circumference lesser in various degrees and reaches significant difference. The sports items of artistic representation promote the development of functions. Hip-hop dance can improve the body shape better than sports dance and aerobics, and it has significant influence especially on the improvement of chest circumference and hip circumference. The sports items of artistic representation promote the development of motor skills but there is no sexual difference, and have comprehensive and concerted development. The participants in aerobics group and hip-hop group have improvement in the item Standing long jump which has been a disadvantage when choosing their items, thus the gap between Standing long jump and sports dance is narrowed.
