Vocabulary is the core part of a language and is the most basic and most important language element. The condition of mastering vocabulary, to some extent, plays an important role in foreign language learning. Therefore, vocabulary learning has caught a great attention from the secondary language learners and researchers. Some researchers find that vocabulary learning strategy is one of the main factors that affect vocabulary learning.During the past twenty years, more and more linguistic researchers at home and abroad have realized the importance of learning foreign language vocabulary through proper vocabulary learning strategies. They have made studies on the application of vocabulary learning strategies from groups of people with different ages and different language levels. However, there are fewer studies on vocabulary learning strategies adopted by secondary vocational school students, particularly those of Taizhou secondary vocational schools.For the students in secondary vocational schools in Taizhou, the lack of vocabulary is the main barrier to improve their English. Meanwhile, the learning attitude of secondary vocational school students towards English learning, to some extent, is influenced by the difficulty in their learning vocabulary. Therefore, it is of great significance to discuss and study the vocabulary learning strategies adopted by secondary vocational school students. I hope this empirical study on the vocabulary learning strategies adopted by secondary vocational school students in Taizhou will cast some light on the improvement of vocabulary learning by secondary vocational school students in China.Based on the questionnaire investigated among the five secondary vocational schools in Taizhou City, this study aims at getting to know the current situation of English vocabulary learning strategies applied by some secondary vocational school students. In addition, it also tries to find out some effective training methods of vocabulary learning strategies for secondary vocational school students.Through this empirical study, some conclusions are made:secondary vocational school students seldom use vocabulary learning strategies; high level students use more strategies than low level students; the choosing of different vocabulary learning strategies reflects the characteristics of different genders and majors. What's more, the training result shows that the training of vocabulary learning strategies positively correlates with the development of students'vocabulary level and comprehensive English level.
