Vocabulary learning is of great importance to language acquisition. In recent years, the focus of foreign language teaching has changed from "how to teach" to "how to learn", the research into vocabulary learning strategies has been a hit in the field of applied linguistics. However, the students in athletic sports school (ASS) often complain about having encountered a lot of difficulties in vocabulary acquisition. They are faced with the big problem of how to learn vocabulary well more quickly. Therefore, it is necessary to explore what learning strategies can help students learn English vocabulary more effectively.Based on the theory of language learning strategies, the thesis expounds some vocabulary learning strategies that are suitable for students, such as meta-cognitive strategy, social/affective strategy, etc. It also makes an analysis of some vocabulary teaching and learning principles.By conducting an experiment which includes questionnaires, interviews, pre-test and post-test, the author proves the effectiveness of using vocabulary learning strategies in vocabulary acquisition. The research shows that successful vocabulary acquisition involves developing students'ability of using vocabulary learning strategies. Teachers should attach importance to strategies training in vocabulary teaching so that the students can become more confident in learning English and achieve the goal of a better vocabulary acquisition.
