As one racing-physical items, rowing race competition normally progresses for six to eight minutes, in which the athletes'energy comes from their aerobic metabolism mainly. The pulmonary ventilation function is the basis for the oxygen coming into the body's circulatory system, so rowers'pulmonary ventilation function impact on their performance quality significantly. In conclusion, the research on the rowers' pulmonary ventilation function is fiercely practical and meaningful, which can offer some references for further rowers'training and selection. The object of this study was 263 rowers, in which 112 members (male 61, female 51) came from Chinese national boat racing Team,77 rowers (male 45, female 32) came from Hubei and Henan province boat racing team, and 74 athletes (male 36, female 38) came from Wuhan city boat racing team and Wuhan Institute of Physical Education team. This study analyzed the correlation between pulmonary ventilation function and body shape, the comparison of the pulmonary ventilation function in different classes and levels, and the relationship between the rowers'pulmonary ventilation function and performance. Taking the 2000 meters exercise test results by rowing ergometer as the dependent variable, the main indicators of pulmonary function that affecting the performance were screened, building up a regression model. Eventually the conclusions are just as follows:1) The moderately positive correlation exists between the rowers' pulmonary ventilation function and their height and weight.2) The open-class rowers' pulmonary ventilation function is better than the lightweight-level ones';the national team athletes' pulmonary ventilation function is better than the provincial team and the city school team ones'. 3) Among all the results, the 2000m ergometer scores shows the highest correlation to the rowers' pulmonary ventilation function. The correlation between the rowers' pulmonary ventilation function and water special performance decreases with the increase of distance.4) The regression model taking 2000m ergometer scores as the dependent variable was:2000m ergometer scores=1917.208-86.268VC(PRED) +265.921FEF75(PRED)+11.181FEF50/FIF50+52.104FEF25(PRED)-87.368PEF (PRED)-19.901FEV1% (G) (PRED)-0.271MVV/BSA-1.660CVI.
