Textbook reform is the core of the implementation of curriculum reform of basic education. The curriculum difficulty is the substantive issue of curriculum. So the difficulty of textbook should be considered as an important issue in the textbook reform.The analysis of educational background between China and Singapore was put in the first place to make clear the difference in education and geography curriculum setting between the two countries. Then make a review in the field of textbook assessment in home and abroad. On this basis this study makes a further summarization of the research in the textbook difficulty assessment in geography and other disciplines. Then turn the light into the field of the assessment of geography textbook difficulty to analyze the assessment of geography textbook difficulty in our country. It turns out that there is little research on the assessment of geography textbook difficulty, so the study on the assessment of geography textbook difficulty is necessary.The second section of this paper proposes a method to assess the geography textbook difficulty based on the assessment plan of textbook learning difficulty made by the research team of international comparative study on middle school science textbook of ECNU.The third part of the study use the method above to evaluate the learning difficulty of the Geography published by People's Education Press House and the Explore Geography published by Panpac Education Press House. This part will make an analysis of the physical geography which consists of 8 topics. The study will analyze each topic from the dimension of knowledge breath and knowledge depth and make a quantitative study on each dimension. At the end of each topic a summarization of the features and differences of the two textbook would be put forward.The fourth part will analyze the human geography which consists of 4 topics. The study will also analyze each topic from the dimension of knowledge breath and knowledge depth and make a quantitative study on each dimension and make a summarization at the end of each topic.The fifth part of this study summarizes the statistical results and come up with a conclusion of the textbook learning difficulty between China and Singapore. Also some advice will be proposed. At last the author reflects on the problems and deficiency in the study and makes an expectation for the study in future.
