As a form of out-put and one of the four basic skills of English learning, writing is an embodiment of learners'ability to use their English knowledge and skills to express their ideas. Thus, how to improve students'writing ability needs to be greatly emphasized. However, in Chinese schools, especially in junior high schools, many students are in a condition of passive writing. The low writing ability results in a large number of typical errors in students'compositions.According to theories of Error Analysis, errors in learners'writing can form a systematic language system. This paper mainly focuses on the errors of students' writing in junior high schools. In this paper,100 compositions written by Grade 9 students from Xuhui High School are chosen as samples and are analyzed based on the theory of Error Analysis with the aim of classifying the errors. Statistics show that the most frequent errors in students'writing are:misuse of verbs, tense errors and Chinglish. Also, by means of questionnaires, this paper tries to seek the causes of those errors. Studies show that students'errors are mainly caused by overgeneralization of the target language and negative transfer of mother tongue.Through the analysis of students'errors, this paper tries to give some suggestions on writing teaching for junior high school teachers.
