The Influence Of Historical And Cultural Knowledge On The Teaching Of English In Middle Schools

Historical and cultural knowledge on teaching belongs to human's culture; human's culture concludes history, geography and so on. Historical and cultural knoeledge is one of the most important part in human's culture. Historical and cultural is valuable for language teaching.Language is the important component of national culture, it is in the wake of development of national culture. Culture of every nation's history and social customs are in the word in this nationality to get in the words embody. The language can't get away the cultural of history. Historical and cultural knowledge relies on the language. Culture and English education are certainly can not get away as English education on teaching of language.This thesis explores the influence of historical and cultural knowledge on the teaching of English in middle schools. The thesis proves that those students who know more historical and cultural knowledge normally have better English proficiency and have better performance in tests. This research is a case study. Based on a literature review, a teaching experiment is done. The results are then processed using SPSS software. The conclusion is that:the teaching of historical and cultural knowledge does help the teaching of English in middle schools. This thesis gives some teaching stratagem and three view points, those are 'Enhance curriculum standard consciousness, pay great attention to the historical and cultural knowledge teaching','Draw lessons from historical and cultural essence, reform the English teaching organization' and'Make the historical and cultural knowledge on teaching and language practice activity be one part'.
