| School curriculum refers to all the subjects students need to learn, as well as the schedule and arrangement of these subjects. In the new round of curriculum reform in China, some compulsory general education courses and special education courses (courses for the deaf, the blind and the retarded) have been established. However, courses for special children attending regular classes are not promulgated and even not mentioned in the reform, which has resulted in many problems in the planning of courses for these students and in turn, greatly affected the quality of their study. Therefore, at present, top priority should be given to the establishment of curriculum for special students to improve the quality of teaching and learning. The thesis makes a great deal of analysis to prove that the most effective way to establish the curriculum for special children in regular classes is to make appropriate adjustment to the general school courses. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part provides an introduction to the current situation of regular class attending and the problems existed in this field in China, followed by a study of the integration courses home and abroad, to demonstrate that in most of the research and experiment, the curriculum for special children is devised on the basis of appropriate adjustment to the general education courses. The second part concerns mainly about the research method and research plan. Based on a theoretical analysis, the third chapter puts forward the criteria for the adjustment of courses through a survey on the course adjustment practice in some elementary schools and the comparison and study of various course adjustment standards. In addition, an endeavor is made to reform the Chinese and math courses according to the criteria, and experiment has been carried out to testify the effectiveness of the adjustment, which, in response to the teachers'advice, has yet to be continually modified and completed. The fourth chapter sums up the thesis, points out the weaknesses of the research and puts forward the prospect for further research. This thesis establishes the criteria for the adjustment of elementary curriculum for special children learning in the regular classes, providing great help for teachers to make similar attempts at intermediate and advanced courses. In the meantime, a set of courses are formed to help the teachers assess the students'ability and apply suitable teaching methods accordingly, which, in turn, enables teachers to improve the quality of teaching. What's more, a complete set of individualized teaching plan composed of experimentally assessed courses can also provide demonstration and reference for teachers. Hence, the work of this thesis has a profound theoretical significance and far-reaching practical influence.Due to the limitation of time and effort, lots of things are left undone in the thesis, such as the further modification and adjustment of the courses, the application of the courses to different types of special children to form paradigms, etc. These problems will be addressed in the author's academic research later. |
