School physical education is a national education basis, a key part of school education as well as one of the guarantees for students'physical health, playing an irreplaceable role in overall development of talents with such qualities as morality, intelligence and physique. Thanks to its unique geographical environment and cultural diversity, Yunnan has a marked difference in physical education, among others, from other provinces and cities. So, access to the characteristics of the current middle school physical education in the regions inhabited by ethnic minorities of Yunnan would be a great opportunity for the province to achieve rapid development of the undertaking of the school education of the ethnic minority regions in the province.This paper intends to make an in-depth and detailed investigation and analysis of the teaching and learning conditions, the teaching process, field facilities, materials etc. at Nujiang Prefecture Ethnic Middle School by means of literature survey, interview with experts, questionnaire, comparative analysis, and mathematic and physical statistics. It also adopts pedagogy, theories of school physical education and other related knowledge to explore the current status of physical education teaching of the school, from objective and overall perspectives, thus providing scientific and resourceful references to improve generally the physical education teaching level of the school and other schools in the province. From the study, five major conclusions are drawn as follows:1. From the study, five major conclusions are drawn as follows:Gym teachers', who work in National Mid-school in Nujiang Autonomous District of Lisu Nationality, cognition for teaching objectives is in accord with our country's education policies and our school's physical teaching objectives at this stage.2. 35.71% of National Mid-school in Nujiang Autonomous District is using other teaching materials and enlarged editions to open theory and technology courses; besides, two National Mid-school introduce and present traditional ethnic sports on technology courses.87.50% teachers think that this is a best way to alleviate pressure of education budget shortage, sport equipments and field shortage; students'attitude for these sports are positive; they enjoy the pleasure and tangible benefits from these sports.3. 66.67% of National Mid-school in Nujiang Autonomous District is without ground track fields and indoor venues; 63.33% gym teachers believe that equipments are in strictly shortage, every student can only share 2 m2 ground field. The ratio of male teachers is much higher than female teachers. Some of school do not allocate female gym teacher. Teacher team, whose education backgrounds accord with teaching qualification, becomes younger in average age; and most of them own intermediate teaching titles. Minority students in the mid-school reach 91.16%. Ratio between teachers and students is 1:389. Though work load is huge for gym teachers, their number is few.85.71% teachers choose way of competition and game to teach, which accord with the entertaining characteristic of traditional ethnic sports.92% students believe the teaching measures are suitable, and can fulfill learning requirement. 90% students believe that teachers'teaching measure has influence on physical study.89% students think the teaching methods that teachers employed are rational.4. The teaching evaluation of National Mid-school in Nujiang Autonomous District of Lisu Nationality mainly focuses on comprehensive evaluation. 94.56% students accept and satisfy pattern of teachers'performance evaluation. With the atmosphere that students are approving gym teachers'performance evaluation way, teachers are full of confidence with their teaching abilities, and can be competent for their jobs.97% students in the National Mid-school build and enhance a strong and healthy physical fitness after taking physical education.
