Study On Timing Of Time-out In Tabletennis

Up-front coaches and athletes have gained numerous practical experience about the usage and timing for time-out call in elite table tennis match since the official rules have had been produced. However, with all the experience, very few of them have hardly been interpreted into theories. After a search-out of call-out connected reference in the national library and so on, only five were found connected with it.While it has been believed that timing of call-out plays a critical role in competitive table tennis match, a research on the characteristics of timing of call-out were conducted in this article through video watching and statistics analysis. Ninety matches were recorded including the Olympics, the World Cup and so on. A few conclusions are reached as following:1 The majority of timing-out call were used in the fifth game when one of the competitors was down one to three, followed by the deciding game. The call-out were utilized fairly by both male and female competitors with different characteristics with the fifth game for the former and the seventh game for the latter. Besides, as for one game, the call-out was used mostly in the middle of the game followed by the end of the game.2 As for the leader, the time-out call was mostly made when there exist one point advantage or the game has come to the end.3 usually the time-out was taken in the last game of the match; in the other place, it also gathered in the middle and the tails in each game, time-out wasn't used in the beginning of the game unless in the last game of the match; besides, one player would take time-out while another player scores in succeed;generally speaking, people who take time-out while in head of the scores can win the game in high ratio.4 The time-out call seem to be most efficient when the other team keep gaining points while the team that make the call still have point advantage. However, it proved to be leading to loss when used in the situation where point advantage keep gaining large or small in big rate.
