With the rapid development of academic cooperation in this scientific age, the phenomenon of poly-authorship and prolific writers has brought more and more complexity to authorship. When postgraduate participates in scientific projects of his supervisor, and/or the supervisor provides his postgraduate with guidance on research thinking, important suggestions or revision, the supervisor and the postgraduate are usually confused with the authorship thereof, including who is entitled to the authorship and the norms of authorship order. With the limited space, this thesis focuses on the norms of authorship order in research results achieved by cooperation of supervisor and his postgraduate. Based on literature review historically and internationally, with the presentation and analysis of typical cases in science history and on internet, this thesis has focused on the norms of qualification and order of authorship in research results produced by supervisor and his postgraduate together.Study shows that inappropriate authorship consists of ethical and technical inappropriateness in research results co-authored by supervisor and his postgraduate, including inappropriate qualification of authorship (i.e. honorary authorship, ghost authorship) and inappropriate order of authorship (i.e. trespass authorship). This thesis has analyzed the nature of authorship and negative effects of inappropriate authorship in research results co-authored by supervisor and his postgraduate. The special human relations, the coincidence of academic cooperation and training between the supervisor and his postgraduate, the quantitative orientation of academic achievements appraisal system, and the Matthew Effect contribute to the inappropriate authorship in research results co-authored by supervisor and his postgraduate as well. Without considering the uncontrollable factors, this thesis has put forward some comprehensive measures for the inappropriate authorship, including advance prevention, process check and post-measures, which may provide reference for editorial staff, supervisors and postgraduate in colleges.
