Teacher-student relationship is a major interpersonal relationship in education. Teacher-student Conflict is generally refereed to as the characteristic of teacher-student relationship, with large amounts of production. However, Teacher-student Contradiction is a more active and constructional concept than Teacher-student Conflict, including the antagonistic as well as the non-antagonistic side of teacher-student conflict. Teacher-student contradiction is the cause of teacher-student conflict, which is the expression of teacher-student contradiction. There is no teacher-student conflict without teacher-student contradiction. It is common that there exists contradiction between teacher and student, while teacher-student contradiction does not necessarily lead to conflicts. Common teacher-student contradiction has an active educational meaning. Therefore, this dissertation makes an attempt to takes the view of the Contradiction in Dialectic Materialism rather than the view of Conflict to study teacher-student relationship,On the basis of research on production of teacher-student relationship and teacher-student conflict, this dissertation refers to Contradictory Theory in Philosophy, applying the structure and characteristics. Classification of contradiction between teacher and student is made in this research, and the analytic structure is built up. Also, the outline of questionnaire is designed. Then, an investigation is carried out in Yancheng No.1 Middle School in Jiangsu Province, analyzing the actuality, characteristic of teacher-student contradiction. The mechanism and requirement of contradiction conversion between teacher and student are further discussed. Finally, on the basis of investigation and research, proposal on coping with teacher-student contradiction is put forward.The investigation indicates that teachers and students almost share the same view on teacher-student contradictory, as both sides take an active view. The investigation proves that there are five levels in teacher-student relationship. The middle level refers to contradiction of thinking, belonging to the contradiction of the Unity of Opposites. The level below the middle level refers to contradiction of language, belonging to the contradiction of belligerence. The last level refers to contradiction of behavior (contradiction of attack). belonging to the contradiction of opposability. The level above the middle level refers to contradiction of cooperation; teachers and students accept one another at this level. At the first level, teachers and students live in harmony, and teaching benefits teachers as well as students. Conversion among the five levels can be achieved. The research finds that in schools and classes giving priority to management, teachers and students have more conflict and contradictory; while in schools and classes giving priority to guidance, teachers and students have more communication and cross swords, with less contradiction at the level of behavior and language.Though the above analysis, it is proposed that contradictory of different levels can be dealt with in different ways. Contradictory of lower levels should be avoided, while that of higher levels should be intensified, which is what education truly pursues. Teachers can try the best to guide the students rather manage them so as to transit from management to guidance as soon as possible. Teachers should focus on communication and cross swords during the process of guidance to achieve common understanding and improvement. Measures can be taken to intensify the build-up of mechanism to promote the contradictory conversion between teacher and student, including the mechanism of law, the mechanism of bylaw, the mechanism of professional organization, the mechanism of culture propaganda, the mechanism of curriculum construction, and the mechanism of communication.
