The Relationship Among Undergraduate Students Perfectionism, Social Support And Depression

Depression as a common emotion disability, were usually found in Chinese undergraduate students, whose detectable rate are always high year by year, which comes to be one of the main psychology questions and has been given great attention from educational department. As one of relatively stable personality traits, Perfectionism students always hold excessive standards aims and critical self-judging habits, and always put heave burden on themselves and give negative effect on mental healthy. The study of social support comes from the eager to know the relation between the life depression and the mental health from 1960s, social support play as an important role when one try to get off the hard question and be far away from the mental crisis in order to get physical health.There are 575 undergraduate students in Shandong were selected to be investigated in this research with the Hewitt Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(H-MPS) and social support scale and Self-Rating Depression Scale to know the relationship between the perfectionism and social support and depression.According to the statistics of the data, the results showed:(1) The main effect of grade of depression is significant. The main effect of gender of depression is not significant. The main effect of professional of depression is not significant. The interactive effect of depression between grade and gender is not significant. The main effect of family income of depression is significant.(2) There are not significant correlation between the OOP and the total score of social support. There are not significant correlation between the SOP and the total score of social support. There are significant correlation between the SPP and the total score of social support. We find that the SPP can well predict social support.(3) There are significant correlation between the total score of perfectionism and the total score of depression. There are significant correlation between the score of OOP and the total score of depression. There are significant correlation between the score of SOP and the total score of depression. There are significant correlation between the score of SPP and the total score of depression. We find that the SPP and SOP can well predict depression. (4) There are significant negative correlation between the total score of social support and the total score of depression. There are significant negative correlation between subjective social support and the total score of depression. There are significant negative correlation between the objective social support and the total score of depression. There are significant negative correlation between the utility of social support and the total score of depression. We find that the subjective social support and the objective social support and the utility of social support can well predict depression.(5) The perfectionism has direct affection on depression, and also the perfectionism has indirect affection on depression. Social support had partial mediated effect between SPP and depression, and the subjective social support has the most important affection.
