College students are endowed with high social and personal expectations, they are strictwith themselves, belittle themselves, and always pursuit of perfection on details, that is calledperfectionism. As one of stable personality traits, perfectionism students often excessivestandards aims and critical self-judging habits, it has a great impact on mental health.Rumination is defined as the compulsively focused attention on the symptoms of one’sdistress, and on its possible causes and consequences, as opposed to its solutions. As a kind ofcognizance, ruminative thinking also plays an important role in emotional problems. There are three parts in this study. In the first part, the author worked out a Chineseversion questionnaire of Ruminative Responses Scale which is adapt for Chinese students. Then, author used it as a tool to examine the relationships between perfectionism, ruminativethinking and depression. Taken some students in higher levels of perfectionism to amindfulness training group. The results showed as following:(1)The revised Rumination Response Scale contains19items, which is composed by thethree dimensions: depressed-symptom rumination, reflective pondering, brooding.RRS isadapt to Chinese college students with high reliability and validity.(2)There is no significant gender differences in perfectionism, rumination anddepression;but the significant difference in grade has been found in brooding and depression.(3)The dimensions of perfectionism:CM、PE、DAare significantly positively related torumination and depression; There is a significantly positively relation between PS andrumination, but PS is not significantly related with depression. Positive perfectionism is notsignificantly positively related to depressed-symptom rumination, which is negatively relatedto depression. Actually, there are positive relationships such as rumination and depression, negative perfectionism and rumination、depression.Further regression analysis showed positive perfectionism, negative perfectionism, rumination and its factors can significantly predict depression, in which the highest predictiverole of negative perfectionism. Positive perfectionism, negative perfectionism can also be asignificant predictor of rumination. Path Analysis provided support for the mediator model,in which ruminative thinkingmediates the effect of perfectionism on depression.(4)The mindfulness training can reduce the level of rumination and depression, the effectof this intervention is efficient.
