Study On Dewey's Pragmatism Evaluation Views

Carding Dewey's value theory systematically and evaluating it scientifically are not only of significance to today's study on evaluation problems and value theory, but also of reference meaning for ways to enhance the actual effects on ideological and political education and to constraint the irrational behaviors.Literature research method along with the method of unifying logic and history together is mainly used in this paper. The philosophical foundation, basic ideas, basic characteristics, existing problems and practical significance are the main contents. By means of literature research method, research results of Dewey's value theory related to Pragmatism and value theory are consulted and collected by various ways. Making full use of different academic information from previous researchers and others and binding the results of studying and reading intensively on the writer's own, the writer deepens and develops the research on Dewey's value theory. Through the method of unifying logic and history together, reference meaning are presented from two aspects of theory and reality binding literature research method and standing on Marxism value philosophy.On the basis of reconstructing the traditional concept on experience, he put forward his own empirical methods and applied them to the value field. He thinks value comes from natural facts and empirical facts, so the way of holding value is empirical way. Valuation and desire happen in problematic situations. Desire and interest aren't criteria of valuations, but objects of valuations. The criteria of a value judgment are rational principles and the effect of an action according to ends in view. Meanwhile, through five steps in thinking, value propositions are established. Dewey's value theory gives prominence to negation to the binary opposition between aims and means. Value is cognized through experimental inquiry. Besides, situations and actions are emphasized. However it, meanwhile, confused the criteria of truth and value. Value rationality and instrumental rationality in valuation are also confused. Dewey's instrumentalism theory of truth is directly applied to his theory of value. Also, the theory of value and his instrumentalism theory of truth supplement each other, because they both emphasize judging truth and value are based on consequences. By means of consequences, desire and emotion get checked. His applying the experimental method to value field changes the direction of thinking which forms value judgments. And blind worship of authority is also avoided. Meanwhile, Dewey emphasizes the importance of the relationship between"utility"and truth or value. He mainly judges concept,desire,interest and the nature of cognition from the view of value. Although Dewey's value theory is different from Pragmatism in many ways, actually it isn't separated from Pragmatism. Meanwhile, Dewey's value theory doesn't really solve the essential problem of Pragmatism, so we should stand on Marxism value philosophy and make a dialectical analysis.
