Since 1990s, higher engineering educational circles have started a wave of returning to engineering itself, which comprehensively and deeply considers engineering in social system, builds engineering on a series of inter-dependent, inter-promoted, and inter-restricted engineering chains, e.g. engineering and environment, engineering and society, engineering and economics, engineering and humanities, engineering and management, and promotes harmony among human, society and nature. The lofty state of higher engineering education is to seek harmony between people and people, human and society, human and nature in the process of engineering practice. Therefore, the time development requires scientific workers to have plenty of social science knowledge, ethical sentiments and humanistic patience, which make them possible to possess stronger adaptability and creativity.From the concept of Engineering with a Big E, a qualified modern engineer must have some acquaintance with and adaptability to economic environment (market), social environment, public policy, human relationship, moral norms, and appreciation of the beautiful and natural environment. In a word, a modern engineer should possess engineering practical ability, the background of multi-disciplinary knowledge, comprehensive ability, professional ethics and sense of social responsibility.At present, in the respect of engineering quality-oriental education, there are many problems not only in the knowledge structure, curriculum, practical teaching but also in teaching contents and teaching methods, such as lacking integration between scientific spirit and humanistic spirit, not paying enough attention to humanistic knowledge, imbalance between scientific education and cultivation of humanistic spirit for lacking of education and guidance of attitude, value, duty and sentiment, not going beyond the division among natural science, social science and humane studies in the educational ideas, and not forming the value guidance of"improving world"and"taking care of nature"from"remaking nature"and"conquering nature".Intensifying ideological education in the realm of higher engineering education will be helpful to cultivate students with awareness of market, quality, safety, group, environment, society, economics, management, creativity and law, promote the realization of"well-integrated character"of students, nurture students with both humanistic spirit and scientific spirit, scientific research method and scientific world outlook. In the practice of engineering training, the process of ideological education from the ideological reality of students is that under the guidance of educator, educatees"internalize" certain social thoughts, moral norms to one's own ethical sentiments and belief and"externalize"to ethical conduct and habits; and realizing the function of value guidance of ideological education in the construction of campus culture.
