The Research Of Dormitory Relationship Among Female Freshmen Of 2010

In the university, dormitories play an important role in students'daily life andstudy. Relationship between roommates is a significant component of students'relationship network, because it has large impact to students'study, daily life, andboth physical & mental health. The issue of students'relationship in dormitories ismore common and more serious among freshman, which results from differencebetween students'personalities, habits, the environment in which they grow up, andhow they value and judge things. Especially for female students, their psychologicaland physiological characteristics lead to more complex relationships.This article aims to investigate the current situation of dormitory relationshipbetween female freshmen, and the main factors influencing it. The subjects arerandomly chosen 500 female freshmen of 2010 from 5 provincial universities in theCity of Lanzhou, Gansu Province by using interviews and questionnaires. As theresults, we found that:1.The dormitory relationship is generally positive, andpositively evaluated by most subjects.2.Roommates are the main socializing circlesamong first-year-girls. The factor mostly influencing their relationship is the diversepersonalities. Additionally, economic condition, the ways handling conflicts, andtrivia, also have impacts on relationship.3.There are more conflicts in the secondyear than the first one. Small groups are commonly formed among roommates,which is led by personalities and living habits.4.Nearly 50% subjects are willing tobreak the traditional dormitory allocating system, which depends on students'majors.They prefer randomly assigning students to dormitories.This article involves four sections. Firstly, the purpose of this article, relevantliterature, meaning of this research, methodologies of this research, relevantconcepts and definitions, are introduced. Secondly, the data collected by usingquestionnaires and interviews are analyzed, aiming to summarize the currentsituation of dormitory relationships and the factors influencing it. The third sectiondiscusses psychological characteristics of female freshmen, and some socializingobstacles. Finally, recommendations of how to develop positive and harmoniousdormitory relationships will be provided.
