Education is a social activity to educate people, it has a great influence on the development of both the society and the human beings.The social status of the teachers in a certain society can, in some respects .reflect the level of how this society regards education and what part education plays in this society.The social status of the primary and middle school teachers in China after 1949 experienced fierce changes and development. It winds its way in social status from the "objects of being united ,educated and reformed" to "the bourgeoisie intellectual" and later "apart of the working class" after the smash of the Jiangqing Group in!976.As far as the economic status is concerned it is always located in low ranks compared with other occupations. The social status and economic status shares a relationship of interaction to each other. So ,after a brief glimpse of the history ,this thesis analyses social status the factors that can be the reasons of the development and changes of the social status that the primary and middle school teachers share in China after 1949.It is believed that the main reasons are as following: Doubting attitudes towards the intellectuals (here mainly referring to primary and middle teachers); The failure in the political system that causes the serious shortage of education investment and the delay in delivering the salaries of the teachers in rural areas. The wrong recognition of the characteristics of the basic education梚ndirect and slow effect on society, and the Utopian eagerness to be successful in a very short time. Preference in choosing necessity that can meet the needs of both the society and the human beings, the characteristics of the primary and middle school teacher occupation that also plays a role in the cause of the development and changes. And finally, the low level of the professionalism in this occupation , all those factors listed above has an important and serious influence on the socialstatus of primary and middle school teachers in China after 1949.On the basis of the analysis, this thesis puts forward to some solutions .That is ,stress must be laid on the importance of education, especially basic education in the course of the building of China's socialism, the education investment must be reinforced to a new level, the responsibility of both the central government and provincial government must be strengthened .efforts must be made to raise the level of the professionalism of the primary and middle school teachers, qualification system must be founded to enroll the qualified teachers that can fulfill the requirements in the field of the basic education in China.
