This thesis brings forth the idea that oral English test should be put into practice in junior middle schools and presents the communicative oral English test approach.This thesis is written after studying the relevant literature, doing the oral English test experiment, interview and questionnaire and collecting some first-hand information.Chapter One reviews the historical development of language test and oral test, focusing on the communicative oral test and its characteristics, elicitation techniques and assessment. Chapter Two introduces the purposes, contents and general methods of oral English test for junior middle school students. It attaches much importance to the five test forms: reading aloud, talking about pictures, cark-cued oral-play, interview and group discussion. Chapter Three discusses the standards and operation of oral English test for junior middle schools. This involves the four aspects: scoring, the choice and training of testers, testing scales and the reliability of scoring. Chapter Four describes the whole process of the oral test experiment and its results and analyses the experiment with the oral testing theories introduced above. Chapter Four concludes the thesis and holds the main viewpoints: According to the New Syllabus standards by the Chinese Education Department and the condition of the English teaching in China, this thesis holds: 1, There should be 2-4 oral English tests in a school year so that the students have more chances to perform on their highest levels; 2, Reading aloud, interview, card-cued role-play, group discussion and talking about pictures are suitable for the junior middle students in the oral English test; 3, It's better for us to use 3-point scale in the scoring-A, B and C.
