The creation and widespread use of Internet is changing human communication methods, which results in the appearance of a new communicative method-Internet communication. It is an important revolution for human communicative methods. Internet changes the person-to-person communicative system to the person-computer-person system. Hence it extends the connotation of human interaction, and develops an indirect communication in a real and virtual world, which is based on a person-computer interface. Because of the coexistence of the same and different time and spaces, the equality and interaction of the subjects, the openness and variety of the communicative materials, the non-linearity and the whole process of the communicative action, and the hiding of the communicative pattern, this new method is different from the traditional methods in its purpose, content, pattern and process, and it is regarded as a brand-new method. Therefore, it is necessary and significant to study the characteristics of Internet communication and its influences on human life.College students are a specific group of netizens and the main force of netizens, so some problems of Internet communication are obvious among college students. Through the investigation by questionnaire and interview at eight colleges in Chongqing, some characteristics of college students' Internet communication have been found. As far as the purpose, truthfulness, devotion and influence are concerned, college students have specific tendencies. As to the purpose, they have not appropriate purposes and pay more attention to amusement than study. They are so addicted in the glamorous virtual world that they often ignore the reality. They are so fascinated by Internet functions that they believe in the person-to-computer system more than the person-to-person system. They also lay more stress on intelligence than morality. There are many reasons for these problems. Firstly, Internet is characterized by its openness, variety, different time and spaces, and the subjects' hiding, equality and freedom. Secondly, college students are poor self-controlled, and lack the right values, social responsibility and communicative moral principles. Thirdly, the poor college management and social supervision cannot prevent these problems. These problems are harmful to students' growth. The college should pay more attention to the students, and take effective measures to guide students' Internet communication. On the basis of these characteristics and reasons, some education guidance strategies are put forward, such as improve students' initiative, help them set appropriate outlook on Internet communication, improve their information quality, ethics and self-controlling awareness. Thus, students can control themselves rationally. In the meantime, we should take steps to perfect Internet programs, college management, and college Internet culture.
