In middle school history teaching, the development of the students' subjectivity and implementation of the goals of quality education have been hindered. The key factor of that is simplified reading method adopted by students. Simplified reading method is a method to take reading as a procedure of seeing and uttering. It neither uses any theoretical or realistic intermediary nor considers the background of reading, including the accumulated knowledge and rhythm of reading, etc. It is very important for teachers to guide students to transform this method into symptomatic one. Symptomatic reading method takes reading as a certain kind of producing, It pay more attention to the blank, silence and absence in the works. It concludes that what we can attain is determined by the structure of the problem, rather than the sight of the subjects. Symptomatic reading method takes history texts as learning materials and a tool of grasping knowledge, not unchangeable "dogmas". Simplified reading method has weakened the cultivation of humanism spirit, scientific spirit and innovative spirit, while the weakening of these has enhanced simplified reading method. Thus, a vicious circle of hindering the students' development has been formed. This article tries to promote the development of students' subjectivity by constructing history knowledge and designing flexible teaching plans, then to cultivate their humanism spirit. It also tries to cultivate students' scientific spirit by research-based learning and scientific probation, and to cultivate their innovative spirit by using Paul's critical thinking for reference. The cultivation of symptomatic reading method is directed to humanism spirit, based on scientific spirit and centered upon innovative spirit. Nice humanism spirit, good scientific spirit and great innovative spirit can enhance symptomaticreading method, while the enhancement of symptomatic reading method can promote the cultivation of humanism spirit, scientific spirit and innovative spirit. Hence it is advantageous to the formation of a virtuous cycle of the students' development. We should make an effort to accelerate the formation of this virtuous cycle so that it can promote the development of students' individuality and implementation of the goals of quality education.
