Since 1990s the information science and technology has developed rapidly. This unprecedented technical revolution not only provides technical guarantee and substantial carrier for the occurrence shaping various new educational patterns, but also stimulates people to view educational from a new perspective. The merging of education and IT is becoming a new trend of educational development of every country in the world, which will breed new patterns of economic increase and educational styles, and continuously give impetus to the development of economy and education themselves in great strides. Modern IT brings more connotations to the values and functions of current higher education and raises more requirements forthem. Higher education conception naturally stands in the forefront of the reform. Against this macrobackground, the reform and development of higher education of our country must be strengthened to confront the Information Age to fix its direction in the age.This paper presents the development trend of higher education in the Information Age concerning resource informationization, object specificity, pattern variety, chance equality, system perpetuality and function socialization by comprehensive consideration of modern IT and current higher education system, and by establishment of the same structure mold of higher education conception and development trend based on modern IT, with the help of a series of methods such as systematic-scientific views, cross cooperation of multi-subjects, comparison-analysis, and the project of educational system ,computer science and modern economics.The reform of current higher education is based on modern IT as its platform. The fact that the role of modern IT in education has been elevated from a supplementary position to a basic one enables us to overcome the conventional ways of thinking for considering and planning the reform in this regard. From the perspective of the dialectical relations between modern IT and higher education, the author expounds the opportunities brought by modern IT to higher education reform and innovation, and presents a higher education conception based on modern IT; explores the higher education innovation in dependence on modern IT by using research achievements of creative thinking theory; elaborates the cultivation of learning ability under the circumstances of modern information network; analyzes the transitional process of the emphasis of education. Through the analysis of the demand for the information resources in education, the paper points out the rational disposition of educational resources by utilizing modern IT to meet the requirements for the whole society to maximum.Modern IT calls on us to face the challenges it brings to the education with a broad view and sober mind to enable us to pre-establish and create high education system in new operational environment with new eyes and change the traditional schooling systems; to set up a broad and universal education outlook in match withthe requirements for economic and social development in the 21 century and for stimulating the modernization and informationizition of higher education.
