Since 1970s, further education for teachers in primary and high schools has developed very rapidly and has been increasinglyemphasized by people in China. Yet, research on this issue stays mainlyat the practical level. It lacks the systematic theoretical structure, especially in the aspect of research on the motive force of further education for teachers. This results in a sharp contrast between the actual practice of further education for teachers and its inadequate theoretical structure. And, the lack of motive force in teachers to receive farther education in reality coincides with the lack of research on the problem of motive force. This entails the thorough research work on the motive force of further education so as to guide our practice. This thesis probes into the issue of motive force of further education from the following aspects:It analyzes the characteristics and motive force of further education and the reasons for the lack of motive force. It also points out the differences between motive force and motive.It analyzes the pressing need for further education for teachers in terms of life-long education, the building of a learning society, the approaching of knowledge economy, evaluations on teachers, and parents' expectations of teachers. And it draws the conclusion that the external motive force of further education for teachers be enhanced.It analyzes the development of teachers' professional expertise, optimization of creative competence structure, and the fostering of introspective teachers from the angles of teachers' self-developmentand self-realization and draws the conclusion that the internal motive force of further education for teachers be enhanced.Through the analysis of the interaction between human being and environment, between teachers and students, teacher-to-teacher andstudent-to-student interact, it draws the conclusion that the interactivemotive force of further education.The forming of combinatory force of further education involvesthe combining of training institute and the schools teachers work for, of academic knowledge and techniques, of academic credentials andacademic attainments, and of full-time learning and learning whileworking,From these, we can see the rich connotation of motive force of further education. The research on it will be helpful to the enrichment and growth of further education theories. It will also help to arouse the enthusiasm, willingness and creativity of teachers to receive further education so as to further promote the effective practice of further education for teachers.
