A Comment On "Chinese Classroom Instruction Democracy

As a kind of instruction thought, the instruction democracy of Chinese classroom, which esteems the students' principal part in the class, thinks that all the means and measures in the space of classroom instruction should serve the "study" of the students and should make the students main part in the classroom. Hence the teacher must guarantee the students' main role to attend in the class. According to this way of analysis, the instruction democracy of Chinese classroom has two basic connotations. One of which is the content of the students' right. That is what right they should have and how they carry out the right; the other of which is the teachers' obligation to guarantee that, that is, what measures should the teachers take to guarantee the students' right to be carried out effectively and scientifically and how they deal with the relationship between the teachers' guide and the students' right. The instruction democracy of Chinese classroom and democratic Chinese classroom instruction are a both related and distinguished concept. The former emphasizes to express democratic thought in instruction behavior and the latter emphasizes to conduct classroom instruction by the guidance of democratic thought. If it is revealed in the classroom instruction, the instruction aim has flexibility, while instruction method variety and instruction course mutual excitation. All are the characteristics of the instructiondemocracy of Chinese classroom.The second part elaborates the instruction democratic right to speak, to decide,to act and to improve. Moreover, this part narrates in detail the four rights' content, feature, expression and the teachers' guarantee tactics. The democracy of utterance right is that the students enjoy equal, true and active speech right. The democracy of decision is that the students enjoy active, complete, whole course decision right or participating in the decision. The democracy of activity right is that the studentsenjoy the right to launch the classroom activity to improve Chinese quality. The democracy of development right is that every learner has the right to improve his own Chinese quality according to his own situation by way of classroom instruction. They are major content of the instruction democracy of Chinese classroom.The third part makes a thorough inquiry on the process of the instruction democracy in the class practice. This inquiry not only refines and summarizes its present practice, but also predicts the future classroom instruction pattern on the base of the understanding to instruction democracy thought, which in my opinion puts up with four basic patterns: special-discussion study democratic pattern, teacher-tutoring democratic pattern, method-guiding democratic pattern and exercise-class democratic pattern. What's more, this part thoroughly narrates its basic usage process and the different usage division between teacher and students of every pattern mentioned in the above paragraphs. Special-discussion democratic study pattern is a small and concrete kind of study based on middle school Chinese, Chinese classroom, the students' choice. Teacher-tutoring democratic pattern is a kind of study that under the condition of the unanimity of the basic question and the circumstances, the students freely develop cooperation and inquiry and teacher guide, adjust and control the group division and speech. Method-guiding democratic pattern is a short cut designed for the students by the teachers focused on some emphasis and difficulty. This is a time-saving, power-saving and effective method. Exercise-class democratic pattern is a method organized and designed by the teachers to develop the students' Chinese quality by means of many kinds of classroom activities.The last part elaborates the requirement to teachers by the instruction democracy of Chinese classroom.
