"Criteria for high school history courses (experimental)"has just been issued. It emphasizes the curriculum concept of developing modern citizens'history awareness, cultural quality and humanity quality. Also, it focuses on developing students'outlook, life values and attitudes and thinking patterns. Students'imagination and ability to perceive and observe social phenomena should also be improved. Then how to use history knowledge to increase students'wisdom and abilities and change their emotions? History teachers have reflected on traditional teaching approaches and give a new oriention for history teaching.This paper analyzes the historical necessity of democracy awareness education in high school history programmes. It absorbs democracy education theories at home and abroad. The significance of democracy awareness education in high school is pointed out and deeply discussed about. The author explores the methods of developing high schooles's democracy awareness from her own teaching experiences. It proves systematically that high school history education is important for developing democracy awareness and can shoulder the important tasks of developing students'democracy awareness. Hopefully, democracy awareness education will benefit students and make contributions on fostering self-disciplined people.The first part mainly analyzes the concepts and theories of democracy awareness.The second part mainly analyzes how to dig out students'democracy awareness in high schools. In addition, methods and strategies of forming students's democracy awareness are summarized through teaching experience.The third part mainly reflects on the methods of developing students'democracy awareness in high schools. Developing students'democracy awareness is not only related to the teaching patterns and learning strategy reforms, but also related to students'healthy characters. It will have a deep effect on the society.The last part is about the thoughts and suggestions this author has in the process of doing research and teaching.
