Christian women's higher education has played a very important role in Chinese modern educational history. Christian women's higher education offered an important training base for Chinese women in early days, which not only initiated women's higher education but also kept mass quality of educational level all the time. This dissertation attempts to study the concrete situation of Christian women's higher education and what it has done in the course of modernizing Chinese education.This dissertation consists of four parts. Part one introduces the historical background of the emergence of Christian women's higher education, which was joined tightly with the social transfer of that time. Part two investigates the course of Christian women's higher education, which includes five phases: germination, development, diversion, transference and ending. Different phases have different characteristics during the hard journey of its development. Part three analyzes some characteristics of the school-running of Christian women's higher education, such as religionary teaching aim, rigorous school supervision, updated teaching contents, diversified teaching methods, social teaching activity, and multilateral funding, etc. Part four summarizes the experience and the shortage of Christian women's higher education by comparing Christian women's higher education with state-run women's higher education and the American women's higher education.
