With the analytical, comparative and illustrative method, this thesis studies the influences of the two Christian universities on Fujian modern society through historical documents and materials. As pioneers of higher education institutions of Fujian province, Fujian Christian University and Hwa Nan Women's College broke through the limitation of traditional education. Their education contents, teaching methods and the modes of bringing up persons with ability promoted the reform of the Fujian modern education and had set a good example to other colleges. Christian universities also joined in the rural reconstruction movement actively. They set up pilot areas in countryside and carried out social education. They tried their best to make contributions to the rural areas. During the Sino-Japanese War period, the students in Christian universities developed a series of patriotic activities. Moreover, the Christian universities raised a large quantity of professional females, who played an important role on women liberation and the moving of improving the status of females. To brief, the two universities had a strong impact on the process of modernization in Fujian province.
