Chinese educational reform has made great achievements, at the same time, there are still a lot of problems. People in ancient times hold the viewpoint that if a person studies well, he can undertake political career. Education was westernized in Westernization Movement. After the establishment of China, education was wholesale sovietization. Whereafter education was wholesale negative sovietization. During Culture Revolution education became a political instrument. Nowadays education has become productivity. Nevertheless, Chinese educational reform is still quality educational reform to much degree today. It is worthwhile to reflect on all the phenomena. Through making a general survey of the history of Chinese educational reform, it is not difficult for us to find that traditional moral idealism is the guiding theory running through the whole process of Chinese educational reform. Strictly, Chinese educational reform lacks in the instruction of scientific systematic theory. It manifests either this or that, and both this and that in the theoretical lay. It represents an overall turning, and worshiping foreign things blindly in the pratical lay. It shows inconsistency in front and at back, and discontinuity of history in the process lay. It displays reconstruction after destruction, and vicious circle in the consequential lay. Although there are various reasons leading to such result, I think there are two factors which have the most profound and central influence on Chinese educational reform. The first one is the traditionalvalues of philosophy which is unity of Heaven and man, oriental thinking mode has the potential restriction with Chinese educational reform. The second one is the utilitarian factor in reality has prominent influence upon Chinese educational reform. In order to avoid history repeat, we must emphasize and strengthen the fundamental work, such as construction, propaganda, and popularization, etc. We also must persist in the people-oriented correct direction, focus educational scientific research and strengthen educational spiritual pursuit, which is the only way to develop the systematic theory of Chinese educational reform.
