Education must be geared to the needs of modernization, of the world and of the future, which is called Three Gears for short. Three Gears show clearly the orientation and developmental path for the reform of Cina' s education. On the basis of scientific understanding of the thought of Deng Xiaoping' s Three Gears, this paper combines the reality of education development to probe into how to accomplish the sustained development of china' s education in new century, this has great significance of theory and practice.The paper consists of three parts. From the three aspects of internation, home and Deng Xiaoping himself, Part 1 expounds the historic necessity of putting forward Three Gears, and discusses its deep and wide connotation, the value of theoretical innovation and practical significance of guideline. Part2 mainly expounds the dialectical and unite relation between the thought of Three Gears and the sustained development of education. Moveover, it discusses the necessity and urgence of accomplishing the sustained development of China' s education. Part3 combines the reality of China's socialist modernization to probe into and discuss how to accomplish the sustained development of education and its position and role in building a well - off society in an all - round way.
