The understanding of this thesis to higher education system is in accordance with the frame of " educational dictionary", it defines the higher education system as the relationship between one country or government and higher educational institution or institute of higher education; The concrete content includes type & level of education system, college entering system, teaching system, teacher system, degree system, etc.The development and evolvement of the higher education system of one country is intricately related with politics, economy, culture, population, religion, historical tradition, etc. of this country. Based on this relation, by systematic and comprehensive organizing of the history, the current situation, historical evolution and developing trend of British higher education system, this thesis brings us to think to use the experience for reference to make the better understanding of the development and improvement of Chinese higher education system accordingly, to think about the way of the reform and development of our higher educational system, and to establish the higher educational system which is suitable to our country. Although there is big difference betweenChinese and British background of history and reality, the reform and development of British higher education system greatly enlightened us, and we can learn many experiences from it.Frankly speaking, what enlightens us and what we can learn from the historical evolution and development of British higher education system is far from what we discussed in this thesis. We sincerely hope we can get some knowledge from British higher education system to expand and advance the progress of the reform of Chinese higher education system.
