This essay makes a current survey of Gymnastics teaching of 85 secondary schools and primary schools, taking the Gymnastics teaching of the secondary schools and primary schools of Lanzhou as object of study with employing the study methods of document, survey by questionnaire, survey by expert. The result releases that the general levels of the Gymnastics teaching of the primary and secondary schools of Lanzhou are not high. And the Gymnastics teaching hasn't been attached deserved importance and status. As well as it fails to exert its important influence during the course of quality education and RE. of schools. There are such characteristics that the record of education and the structure of title are unreasonable with the teachers of P.E. who are engaged in Gymnastics. The schools are extremely short of Gymnastics teachers, who are heavy-burdened and poor paid. Obvious damage rate occurs to carrying out the Gymnastics teaching programme and materials.The main elements exerting influence on the Gymnastics teaching of secondary schools these schools in Lanzhou include one-side pursuing the rate of entering a higher school, the leaders less thinking of the P.E. and the shortage of Gymnastics teaching field and sports apparatuses.In order to tapidly develop the Gymnastics teaching of the primary and secondary schools of Lanzhou, the development of the Gymnastics teaching function must be strengthen. By means of investigation, the experts suggest the following counter measures accordingly. The first step is to realize the function transformation of the Gymnastics teaching. The first point of it is to build up the teaching aims of the Gymnastics teaching. The second is set up the teaching contents. The third is to embody the Gymnastic material. And the last point is to qualify the P.E. teachers engaging in Gymnastics teaching. The second step is to ensure the measures of carrying out the transformation of the Gymnasticsteaching function including the following points: to have access to the proper status during the schools RE.; to expand the put-in of the expenditure of RE. so as to improve the Gymnastics teaching fields and the apparatuses equipments; to strengthen the establishment of the Gymnastics teachers group. As well as to improve the RE. teachers benefits of work and living; to extend the space of the teaching materials so as to build up the foundation of the study of the theory and practice of Gymnastics teaching.As far as the object is concerned the Gymnastics teaching, accompanying with the RE. is just the education for all the children and the young. As to the objective, it is the education for improving the citizens' quality. Considering the content, it is the education for improving the all-sided development physically and mentally as well as the mainstay of improving the national quality and the cradle of the growth of talents. To set up the teaching idea of P.E. is the inevitable and efficient way for the students of these schools to get the new vitality as well as the powerful support for the modernization tendency of the P.E. cause. We are supposed to face the world and consider the situation of realizing China's development of sparing centuries, so as to bring about a new situation of the Gymnastics teaching of the primary and secondary schools of Lanzhou in the environment of China's education reform and development.
