As a kind of educational means, educational punishment is a long-termed topic, which has been widely discussed by people. As a problem in the pedagogy, it is very different for people to deal with the punishment, so it is necessary for us to discuss it. This dissertation investigates the history of the punishment, formative reasons, concept and classification in the view of pedagogy, and puts forth the standpoint that divides the punishment into reasonable punishment and unreasonable punishment. The dissertation also defines unreasonable punishment as the punishment which is unsuited to the law, the moral and the education, and discusses the preventive measures of the unreasonable punishment. At the same time, the dissertation tries to discuss the meaning of reasonable punishment and the requests of putting the reasonable punishment into practice. The essential requests of it are: Can the punishment be practiced? This is juridical request. Should the punishment be practiced? This is moral request. Is the punishment worth practicing? This is the request of the education purpose. How the punishment be practiced? This is the request of the education art.
