?Affect is the link between the teacher and the students in communication. In the English classroom teaching, active, healthy and pleasant affect has an important influence on the development of students understanding and mastering English and their ability of using English comprehensibly. Its influence lies in creating a good teaching environment, arousing the students' interest, cultivating students' autonomy, cooperative spirit and creative ability. Since the 1970's humanistic language-teaching theory begins to focus its attention on affect and personality in language teaching. In Krashen's Affective Filter Hypothesis, he states affective factor plays a very important role in second language acquisition. Piaget emphasises the process of cognitive construction is the process of affective construction in his theory of affective development. In China, Many researches of affect in learning have been done. "Enjoyable education" and "successful education" have been appeared. But during the English classroom teaching , how to play the role of teacher's affect has still been little studied. The author considers the teaching reality and based on Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of human needs and the predecessor's researches, she proposes the question of how to play the role of teacher's affect and provides the ways which are carried out in English classroom teaching. This thesis includes the following contents.Part I is the introduction. It describes present English classroom teaching in middle schools and the author proposes a question: How to play the role of teacher's affect in English classroom teaching? Part II gives the definition of affect, and states students' affect in English learning and an overview of the study of affect in English classroom teaching. Part III tells us what teacher's affect is and its theoretical base, role and significance in English classroom teaching. Part IV states how the role of teacher's affect plays depends on whether the teacher carries out affective education and provides the ways to put teacher's affect into English classroom teaching. Part V is the conclusion of the thesis. The author gives her hope to all the English teachers. She hopes that they can play fully their active affect to make students want to learn, be able to learn and enjoy learning.
